Bluebird, Emperor Goose, Etc. 1-22-10

The Mountain Bluebird is still at the Mormon Church (out East End Rd). It's been there now for over two months! The Emperor Goose is still on the beach near the Pier One Theater and it has been there over one month!

Large group of 100+ Robins at Seaside Farm and 100-150 Bohemian Waxwings at Brenmark and East End Rd.

Many reports of Sharp-shinned Hawks, Northern Goshawks, and Northern Hawk Owl at Portlock St, Beluga Ct. and Anchor Point.

Increase of Bald Eagles last week up to over 75 on the spit; most concentrated near Land's End.

An attempt being made to determine if the Fox Sparrows seen by the TIGLAX in the Harbor are actually Fox Sparrows? Will let you know--photos taken to be studied. (Or wait until they sing us a song?)

Interesting but unconfirmed report of Chestnut-backed Chickadees near Kachemak Way and Rainbow St. Usually those reports turn out negative, but you never know?

Many people are telling me there are far fewer songbirds this year coming to feeders. Do you think?

Eurasian Widgeon: 1-10-10

There were 4 Eurasian Widgeon in with many American Widgeons in Mud Bay at high tide today. Beautiful colors in the sunshine.

We couldn't find the Emperor Goose, but hopefully others would have.

Eagle numbers down from 36 last weekend to 33 this weekend, but within our margin of error so may be about the same.
