12-9-09 Bluebird and Solitaire
The Mountain Bluebird is still at the Church of Christ on East End Rd.
The Townsend's Solitaire is still being seen about a quarter mile up from Taku on Fernwood. Mornings are when it is most frequently seen.
The Sandhill Crane up on the North Fork Rd is also still there.
(A similar pattern to these reports?)

The Mountain Bluebird was still at the Church of Christ as the sun was going down on Tuesday.
A single Sandhill Crane was reported on the Northfork Rd. Possibly the one that was alone up in the Palmer hayflats recently. A supposition I suppose?
American Pipit seen at Bishop’s Beach by the slough.
Possible Snow Bunting near the Fishing Hole.
Short-eared Owls at Louie’s Lagoon.
Many good birds!

The Mountain Bluebird was seen again yesterday (20th) near the Church just across from Home Run Oil. Seen in the trees there eating, was not hard to find, and stayed around for a while.
According to Dave Erickson, a Mountain Bluebird was seen about 5 years ago in town near the Bidarka Inn, although not officially verified. They are "rare" in Alaska and "accidental" in Kachemak Bay in winter.

How this will go and how you can help.
When I hear of a bird sighting I will post it on here. Also add ones from AKBirding.
I invite everyone else to do the same. It could be a great way to hear about birds faster and to just focus on Homer and Kachemak Bay.
If you want to contact me for more information about a bird, you can use my email or phone number or send an email through peep@islandsandocean.org.
